I was brought onboard, eventually with CreativeFRONTLINE, with the presumption of supporting a wider range of voices including Native American/Indigenous, Latino and African. Our Climate Change is Here podcast was heard by Michael Novick, Interim General Manager which is how it all began for me. I invited guests, many with indigenous or environmental backgrounds, with the unarguable and impactful, purely journalistic idea I would ask "Three good questions" and let my guests talk. I was also committed to delivering a regular curated group of topical subjects and key individuals, on time, steadily, in advance of any deadlines, to make the programmers' lives easier.
It was good to read "Since Novick started, his substantial changes to the programming grid have initiated a positive turnaround. Within two months, listenership has doubled, resulting in more revenue. KPFK is “the little engine that could” return to its progressive roots and it is inspiring the other Pacifica stations to take heart and follow its example."
We began providing programming in 2022, and solidly continued through 2023, 2024, and the last several months until being displaced by an entertainment related music program. Draw your own conclusions and let the new GM, Maggie Lepique, know how you feel about it.
KPFK began in 1949, post World War Two, by Pacifists. It's always been a good and noble idea, worth supporting whole heartedly. Please read the attached article and do what you can.
